Laurel Leaf
An influential English artist, visionary and book illustrator, Walter Crane built on the legacy of William Morris and helped to consolidate the expression of Arts and Crafts style, becoming the first president of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society. He began designing wallpapers in 1874 and excelled in flat pattern design, working for many different manufacturers. London-based Jeffrey & Co, were a prominent English producer of fine wallpapers and originally released this pattern in 1911. They printed wallpapers for some of the best designers of the time, including Morris and C.F.A. Voysey, and regularly won medals and prizes at international exhibitions. The graceful, trailing leaf wallpaper captures the enduring, natural motif of the laurel, regarded and revered as a sign of victory and success since antiquity.
